CHIPSY & CLIPSY
MOBILE GAME DESIGN
Client: PepsiCo
Role: UI/UX, Game designer
Project duration: 4 days
About
As part of the new year campaign, Chipsy and Clipsy in addition to standard digital and printed materials in 2021 for the first time integrate an interactive game into mobile advertisements through the AdColony platform, which allows the user to play games of given brands after viewing the ad. The very principle of the game is defined by the parameters of the platform, which defines two active buttons with which the user moves through 3 paths and a game that, in concept reminds of old-school games in which it is necessary to collect as many falling points as possible and at the same time avoid items that give negatives.
The design
The design direction for the game is derived from materials I made for the New Year campaign. It features characteristic colors, typefaces, and decorations for the occasion. The focus of the key visual is on the packshots that have been redesigned to host messages and wishes wrapped in a New Year star.
One of the main challenges was implementing used graphic elements into defined game mechanics. But with already mentioned elements of stars with wishes and messages, they came as an obvious choice for positive points that would be needed for the game. As the key visual doesn’t have “negative” elements I introduced snowballs as the points that the user needs to avoid.
Game mechanics & final screens
Santa's sack needs to be positioned so that falling stars with messages are caught, as you collect them you gain points that are visually monitored through the filling of the pouch in the left corner. Snowballs represent negative points and when the user catches them they lose a certain percentage of the bag's filling. The goal is to fill the chosen pouch to the end then the platform will take you to the webpage associated with the current promotion and ad campaign.
